Slayers RPG Patch Readme File
created by Robert Boyd
rwb36@email.byu.edu (but only during March 2000)

This file and the slayers patch file can be distributed freely as long as
due credit is given. Also, feel free to use this patch file as a start to
your own Slayers translation project as I'm not going to be doing any
further work on it for a LONG time.

First off, I'd like to thank a few of the people who helped make this patch
possible. First and foremost, I'd like to give a big thanks to CzarDragon
who created the original Slayers RPG menu patch; without it, I wouldn't have
been able to even start making my own patch. Secondly, I'd like to thank the
writer of the only SNES Slayers RPG FAQ currently in English, Steven Bruck -
his guide was a big help, both in playing the game and in making the patch.

To use this patch, you'll need the IPS program (included with this zip
file). Just type IPS followed by the name of the original slayers game file
(probably slayers.smc) followed by the patch file (slayers.ips).

This patch was my first successful attempt at game hacking and it turned
out pretty well. It didn't even take too long (just a day and a half).
It should make playing the game much easier for people who are not fluent
with Japanese as a lot of the gameplay oriented text has been translated.
Also, the non translated text is still in Japanese (unlike the
gibberish that one often finds in incomplete translations). In most
instances, I tried to keep the translation as close to the original as
possible, but a few changes were made (mostly due to space limitations).

What's translated with this patch:

Most of the main menu and submenus.
A few other menus (like some of the shops).
Character names.
All weapons, armor, footwear, cloaks, and accessories.
All Spells.
Most non-story items.
Odds and ends.

What's not translated with this patch:

The main character's name (it's handled differently than the other characters).
Everything relating to dialogue and story.
Everything else not listed in the translated section. :)
